One of the most common questions we get is, “what should I bring to FLETC”? Therefore we wanted to put together a list of items that are a necessity at FLETC and save you a few trips to Walmart/Target.

- Two suits/ties.
- One pair of dress shoes.
- Two pairs of sneakers.
- One pair of black duty boots.
- Casual cloths for nights/weekend, during the day you will be in FLETC issued “smurf” uniforms.
- Razors/hair care products/soap.
- Laundry detergent: washers/dryers are free.
- Laptop/Playstation/DVD player/etc are nice extra but not needed.
- Sunblock.
- Beach towel.
- Bug spray with DEET.
- Police notebook/pad.
- Book-bag for class materials.
- Good shooting glasses. Glasses are provided but its nice to have your own pair.
- Supplements/Vitamins.
- Sunglasses.

Also, if you have the ability to drive a personal car it will make life much easier. You will have the ability to run out for dinner/drinks/errands and not rely on your classmates. Plus if you have family/friends visiting or need to fly out of Savannah/Jacksonville it will save time from renting a car. We went somewhere almost every weekend, not a whole lot going on in Brunswick GA but there are tons of options if you have a car.

If any other FLETC graduates have anything to add please utilize the comments sections.

Thanks!

  1. Ben says:

how often do you wear a suit at FLETC?

    • Brad says:

      @ Ben

It depends on your program but in general you are more than fine with 2 suits total.

You will wear a suit on first and last day for most programs, if you are in CITP then you will wear a few more times but no need for more than 2.

sorry i should have mentioned that in my first post. in regards to USSS UD? Thanks Brad

          No worries.

1 or 2 suits will be fine, just bring 2 dress shirts and 2 ties…little variety never hurts.

Good luck w/ UD, it is a good place with awesome training. Make the job work for you, take advantage of all training opportunities and positive attitude.

If you decide to leave in a few years for something different there will be tons of opportunities in the Govt and private sector. Lots of former Service everywhere and having the USSS on resume opens a lot of doors. That being said the first 2-3 year is the hardest, once you get over that hurdle the job gets much better.
