After a long application process you finally arrive at FLETC, what’s the next step?

Pack your bags your on the way to Glynco

Following “The Call” your parent agency will most likely give you an option to fly or drive your POV , government speak for personally owned vehicle (check out our comprehensive list of government related acronyms here).  Once you arrive at the FLETC gates you will check in with security and need to provide proof of insurance.  If you don’t have updated insurance, you will not be allowed to drive on base.  Having a car available is key and will allow you the freedom to get away if needed.  We made weekend trips to Savannah, Atlanta, and the Florida beaches and had an awesome time.  Also, when you get sick of the FLETC chicken cooked in every variety possible the car will enable a night off base for dinner.

You will now be assigned a room on the campus, pray you are staying at the “Taj” which is the newest and nicest of the buildings.  It is basically a typical college dorm set up. The dorm setting may be sparse, but I have nothing bad to say about FLETC, the staff, or the campus. It is all top notch. If you don’t know what to bring, check out this post on packing your bags for FLETC.

Here is a break down of a standard FLETC day:

- You have 3 options for breakfast bus pick up:  0530, 0600, 0630 but if you want to enjoy breakfast and not rush I strongly endorse the 0600 option.

- Classroom and practical exercises will take up the remainder of the day, that will include ORT (Operational Readiness Test), Firearms, Driver Training, etc.  Some of these days will go until 10pm. Expect fatigue, especially after a long week.

- At the end of the day you will have free time, I recommend getting a nightly study group and review the day’s materials.

Weekends are your free time to blow off some steam, relax, and catch up on some sleep. Be sure to check out the recreational activities in the area.  Remember to hydrate, study, network, and have fun.  FLETC is a special time in a new Officer/Agents life and career so don’t waste it by being anti social or ruin it by being a drunken fool. If you have family having them stay and visit in a Glynco area hotel is a great way to catch up. Check out this post on “Mission Priorities” to get the facts about family life at FLETC.
