Here’s a list of What NOT TO DO at FLETC:

1 – Don’t forget why you are there.
You put in months/years to get to FLETC, don’t be a fool and get kicked out.

2 – How does one get kicked out?
Being late/missing classes, being a drunken fool, sexual harassment of classmates, flunking test, and any other form of jackassery.

3 – Don’t be that guy/gal.
Your reputation will follow you throughout your career, start it off right.

4 – Do not show up out of shape.
Your classmates will hate you and your excuses.

5 – Do not stay in your room and be a loner.
This is your time to network with other agencies and recruits. Build lifelong friendships and gain an understanding of other agencies/missions.

6 – Do not be afraid to ask for help.
Need help with academics, PT, etc. The FLETC and agency specific staff are great there to help.

7 – Do not drink/drive!
No-brainer? You would think but I have seen tons of recruits head out to St. Simons and then drive home after a long night.

8 – Do not think you know it all.
It doesn’t matter if you were former Spec Ops, SWAT, etc. You do it the FLETC way to graduate and be humble.

For airline passengers, don’t forget Brunswick Golden Isles Airport, which is right next door to FLETC! It’s served by Delta through Atlanta and has rental cars available.

Hey, I had a quick question. I see after studying we will have quite a bit of down time. Does anyone know if you could bring a guitar to FLETC? like a smaller traveling guitar?? Or are there any rules against that? Not anything electric, just a small acoustic one to help pass the time. Thanks!!!!! LOVE THE FORUM

    • Brad says:

Charles – You can bring a guitar. Think of FLETC as college with a purpose…with guns also.

FLETC is awesome and will provide great training/experience. It is not a paramilitary environment like a traditional police training program like a State Police organization.

  6. Kay says:

Does the Academy have any holidays off?

  7. Jim says:

I am currently working as a part time police officer and my state hasn’t had any full time academies lately due to budget cuts. Would my police chief be able to sponsor me to a Federal Law Enforcement Academy, if not, would I be able to obtain sponsorship if I petitioned a federal agency, such as at the National Park Service to sponsor me to their full time “Land Management Police Training (LMPT)” academy at FLETC? I know my state will accept some academies from FLETC. Anyone know what other states in the North East or primarily the east coast accept FLETC academies in lieu of their POST requirements?

    Thanks!

  8. Brad says:

@ Jim – You would have to contact FLETC directly for the first part of your question regarding sponsorship.

I know Vermont will accept Federal training but you need to perform the legal/law package for VT specific law.

    Hope that helps.

  9. Marcos says:

Hey, very informative site thanks. I was very much on the fence as to whether or not to take my car, I live in Miami, be about a 6 hour drive, which is manageable. I’ve heard mixed things when it comes to personal vehicles, ranging from lack of parking to being the guy everyone tries to hitch a ride from, to it being nice to have your car to go from point a to point b as you’ve stated. Whats your recommendation?
